Music

At Sunnybank each class participates in classroom music lessons for half an hour each week with a music specialist teacher. Students in Year 4-7 can join the choir program.

A variety of concert and performance opportunities are arranged to give students in the School Band, School Choir and Strings Ensemble the chance to perform.

Education Queensland Instrumental Music teachers visit the school for lessons in percussion, strings, brass and wind instruments. Our school offers both a Strings and a Band Instrumental Music Program.

Mrs Catherine Erbacher is the Strings teacher and she is here for two thirds of a day on Thursdays. Students from Year 3-6 can learn to play Violin, Cello or Double Bass.

On Tuesdays, we have Matthew Fellows here for two thirds of a day to teach Band instruments. Students in Years 4-6 can learn to play Brass, Woodwind or Percussion instruments.

The Instrumental Music teachers are funded by the State so you do not have to pay tuition fees. The only cost to parents if students have their own instrument is $30 to cover the costs of sheet music for ensembles. If students don't have their own instrument a limited number of school ones are available for hire for the first year at a cost of another $30.

The school also hosts an external provider of music lessons, The Primary Music Institute, which provides keyboard lesson on a Thursday. For more information visit their website at primarymusicinstitute.com.au.
